He earned his doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Oklahoma State University following his undergraduate work at Texas A&M University.  His dissertation investigated the impact of tornadoes on children.  He completed his predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Texas Children's Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he continued his research and clinical work with children exposed to trauma.  After completing his training, Dr. Runyan accepted a clinical position at Carson-Tahoe Regional Healthcare in Carson City, Nevada, where he worked for more than 9 years as a clinician and director of a behavioral health unit.
Early in 2009, he and his wife, Lori, came to the conclusion that it was time to return to the South; so they moved from Oklahoma to Arkansas with their two sons, Elliott and Garrett.  He is excited about living in this family-friendly region and is honored by the opportunity to serve the Central Arkansas community.
